What Should You Avoid After Having Your Permanent Makeup Done? — Your PMU Aftercare

Natalia Wardleworth · 15 October 2026 · 2 min read

Good aftercare is crucial when allowing your PMU to heal. I always say that aftercare is 50% of your result.

But what aftercare should you be advised to follow? The aftercare varies based off the treatment you've had:

Aftercare DO NOT'S:

  • Do not apply makeup to the treated area during the 5 days following your treatment.
  • Do not touch the treated area with your fingers.
  • Do not use soaps, cleansers or creams directly on the treated areas.
  • Do not use any abrasive products such as rough towels or similar.
  • Avoid any heat treatments such as saunas and steamrooms, as the area needs to remain dry.
  • Do not use any form of depilatory or bleach products.
  • Avoid exposing your skin to swimming.
  • Avoid allowing direct sunlight to hit the treated areas.

For Eyebrow and Lip treatments, A+D ointment is applied 3 times a day for 5 days. Ensuring when doing so you're using a clean cotton bud every time and never using your fingers. A+D supports the skin to heal, and soothes the treated area at the same time.

For Eyebrow and Eyeliner treatments, if needed you can gently cleanse the treated area using clean water and a clean cotton bud. This is advised instead of picking at your PMU scabs.
