Permanent Makeup is quickly becoming beauty's next big thing. But there are myths that come with being popular in the beauty industry.
- ✕PMU has to be blocky
- ✕All pigment fades discoloured
- ✕One shape fits all
- ✕PMU can't be natural
- ✕PMU is permanent, forever
- ✕PMU doesn't suit everyone
1.PMU has to be blocky
That couldn't be any further from the truth. Everyone has a different style. Some women prefer bolder, brighter makeup, and some prefer a subtle and enhanced look. PMU is becoming more and more natural, along with the trends changing.
It's recommended when having Permanent Makeup for the first time to go for more natural treatments such as soft powder with microblading, lip blush and lash enhancement. This allows the client to have defined but natural results, rather than leaving with bold, blocky makeup. It's a great way of dipping your toes into PMU.
So no, PMU doesn't need to be blocky. It's down to the arrangement of things such as preferences, style, the PMU artist, and what they may specialise in.
2.All pigment fades discoloured
Pigment quality plays a huge role in this statement. Good quality pigment will fade to the same colour that has been chosen, but gradually. Bad pigment fades off colour, into potential shades of reds, oranges, greens and so on.
Ensure that your PMU artist is using good quality pigment before paying the price of cheap ink. Unfortunately this does happen often with a lot of first-time women wanting PMU — this is what gives PMU a bad name. So no, not all pigment fades discoloured; it's down to the quality of the ink being put into the skin.

3.One shape fits all
Everyone's face and preferences are different. Things a PMU artist needs to take into consideration include:
- Face shape
- Bone structure
- The size of the eyes and lips
- Facial features
All these factors contribute to creating a personalised treatment. Every treatment is measured and then sketched for you, on you. Some women have smaller features, some have bigger ones. The same goes for thinner features and thicker.
PMU is far from one-size-fits-all. Every treatment differs from the next.
4.PMU can't be natural
PMU will be designed for you, by you. The world has never had more natural Permanent Makeup than it does today. There are so many tools, techniques and training that allow artists to perform amazing natural results.
From microblading to soft powder on the brows, lip blush with a subtle pigment, to finishing with a beautiful lash enhancement ranging from browns to black — there are many PMU treatments that allow women to have stunning natural results.

5.PMU is permanent, forever
Great quality pigment is designed to lighten and gradually break down over time. This allows the appearance to become more subtle as time goes on.
PMU isn't designed to stay bold and blocky forever. It allows women to come back every 12–24 months for their colour boost, and potentially have an alternative colour or even a new style if wanted.
So why is Permanent Makeup great for its longevity? Over time it will lighten and fade, making it less visible as the years go on.
6.PMU doesn't suit everyone
Similar to point one, PMU is customisable. This is why your free consultation is important. We discuss your wants, your lifestyle and how you wear your makeup daily.
PMU is designed to suit your face — you shouldn't have to suit PMU. Everyone wears makeup differently and for different reasons. So yes, there is a PMU that suits everyone.
Taking into consideration your features and opinions, we create work that will have people questioning what it was that gave you that glow-up.
Myths are myths for a reason
Overall, there are many myths about any beauty treatment. They're myths for a reason. Some choose to follow the crowd and believe them, and others will make their own judgment.
Don't allow others' horror stories to scare you into missing out on the great opportunities and benefits PMU has brought to so many others.
It's all about finding an Artist whom you trust and believe in.
If you've been considering or thinking about having PMU but you're unsure if it's right for you, I'd be happy to answer any questions or worries you may have. I look forward to hearing from you — Natalia.
